MY FAVOURITE SPF PRODUCTS

7th Jul 2017 - Beauty

Since Summer is finally upon us, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for me to put together a little post about some of my favourite SPF products. I cannot stress enough how important it is to take good care of your skin, and making sure to protect your face and body with a good quality SPF is a vital step. When the sun is high up in the sky it’s so important to protect yourself from its harmful rays. Here are a couple of the SPF products that I find myself reaching for.

First off I have to start by mentioning the Avène Au Thermale Very High Protection Emulsion SPF 50+. I would go as far as to say that this is my all time favourite SPF product, and that’s because it feels like it was tailored specifically for my skin! This sunscreen has been formulated to protect hypersensitive skin (unfortunately something I suffer from) and is the perfect solution for people with light and fair skin tones. Since my skin is so sensitive, it can often be hard for me to find a sunscreen that not only protects my skin, but is also kind and gentle on it too. This stuff is great because it always leaves my skin feeling wonderfully soft and nourished, and does a fantastic job at protecting me from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Although this is fab for my sensitive skin, the Avène Au Thermale SPF is a great all-round product and does a wonderful job at protecting all skin types from the sun’s harmful rays. Within the formula is a concoction of Pre-Tocopheryl (powerful antioxidant which protects skin cells from free radicals), the infamous Avène Thermal Spring Water (which soothes and nourishes the skin) as well as Cucurbita Pepo Extract (which gives the skin a matte finish). I pretty much use this stuff throughout the summer and I know that I’ll be using it for years to come too.

You might have noticed that I’m obsessed with every single La Mer product to exist, so of course I had to take a minute to mention the amazing La Mer ‘Reparative Sun Lotion’. As with all La Mer products, this sun lotion is a lot more pricey than your average drugstore SPF, but if you’re looking for a sun lotion that not only does a fab job at protecting your skin, but also feels super special and luxurious, then this is the product for you! What I love about this La Mer lotion is that the formula feels like silk. It’s such a lightweight fluid formula but trust me when I say that it really packs a punch. It does a great job at protecting against potentially damaging light while also preventing the appearance of future discolourations. This is a great choice if you have any scars or marks on your body that need protecting.

As with the Avène sun lotion, the La Roch-Posay SPF is perfect for those of you who have fair and sensitive skin like me. What I love about this sun screen is that its fragrance free, so it feels super kind and gentle on my skin. It’s perfect to use to prevent the appearance of sun-induced dark spots as it has a high PPD factor (PPD stands for Persistent Pigment Darkening). I tend to apply this stuff regularly and take special care to re-apply if I’m jumping in and out of the pool throughout the day. I love it!

If you love the La Mer Reparative Sun Lotion for the body, then you’re pretty much guaranteed to love the La Mer Reparative Face Sun Lotion too. Of course this lotion does a great job at protecting my skin, but another reason why I love this stuff is because it also gives my skin a gorgeous natural-looking glow. The formula is infused with anti-ageing ingredients which make my skin feel nourished and look super radiant.

I try not to wear too much makeup during the summer months, but if ever there’s an occasion when I know I’m going to be wearing a full face, I’ll always reach for the Giorgio Armani Maestro UV Skin Defence Primer. This stuff is amazing to wear under makeup because it doubles up as a primer. Much like the La Mer Reparative Face Sun Lotion, the formula of the Defence Primer feels silky smooth and applies with ease. Although this SPF is amazing under your makeup, you can also wear this primer alone. It’s suitable for all skin types (even the most sensitive skin) and does a great job at protecting your face from harmful UVs. It’s fantastic and I even gave a bottle to my boyfriend to use!

If facial mists are your thing then you NEED to try the Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Multi Protecting Hydrating Mist. I’m a total sucker for a mist, so when I discovered it I fell in love. Before heading out for the day I tend to use something like the La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF or the Maestro UV Defence Primer as my base, but I’ll usually carry around a bottle of the Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Multi Protecting Hydrating Mist to spritz throughout the day. If I know I have a busy day ahead then this stuff is great to throw into the bottom of my bag because re-applying is so easy and stress-free to do. It’s super hydrating and protects the skin from daily issues such as dehydration, pollution and harmful UV rays. This is a great all rounder and it’s super affordable so definitely give this one a go!

So those are a few of my go-to SPF products. I’d love to know if you guys have any recommendations of products that I should try. I’m going to be travelling quite a bit over the summer so I need to make sure I’m stocked up on sun lotions for the next few months. • I, too, adore Giorgio Armani Maestro UV Skin Defense primer, it is very luxurious! I reviewed it on my blog and give it top marks! It is a great buy. I use it without makeup – on top of moisturiser, and top up throughout the day with La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF spray. Perfect duo for sensitive skin.
Thanks for the great round up, Estee! La Mer is my next brand to try xxx

It is only recently, I started thinking about what is actually in sunscreen. I found a lot of brands that have ingredients that are not nice for your skin.. It’s like a jungle to find good products with good ingredients. Besides that I always use factor 50. Living in the north 10 minutes in the sun and you are burned! Need those SPFs 🙂
