A few weeks back I put together a post all about the base products that I use to achieve my ‘glowy skin’ look. So many of you told me how much you loved that post so I thought that it might be fun to show you some of the highlighters that I use to get that extra dewy effect. Like pretty much everyone else on the planet right now, I’m totally OBSESSED with illuminators (seriously, what did we do without them!?) and what’s great is that there are so many stunning products out there! I thought I’d tell you a little bit about some of the highlighters that I personally use in my collection.

I’m gonna start things off by talking about a powder product that I’ve been using since it was released and that’s the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Filmstar Bronze and Glow’ palette. As with all Charlotte Tilbury makeup, this palette is STUNNING from the packaging to the product. Within the palette comes a highlighter and a bronzer, and the palette itself is available in fair/medium (the one I have) and medium/dark. You can use a brush to apply this product but I really like the way that it looks when I apply it with my finger tips. All I do is dab my finger lightly into the powder and bounce the product onto the areas that I want to illuminate.

Next up I have to take a second to talk about the NYX ‘Away We Glow’ Liquid Highlighter. Highlighters are generally an item in my makeup bag that I like to spend a little more on, and that’s not for any particular reason other than I’d never really found a drugstore highlighter that worked for me…until now! A couple of months back I filmed a huuuuuge drugstore haul video where I mentioned these amazing NYX highlighters and I’ve been using mine non stop ever since! Not only do I love these liquid illuminators because they’re SO affordable (£8!) but they’re also genuinely lovely to apply and wear. These are great to keep with you while you’re on the go because they require minimal effort (my fave kinda product!). I literally just dab a little bit of the formula onto the back of my hand before working it onto the tops of my cheekbones, and under the arch of my eyebrows.

I’m all about wearing a super subtle highlighter (so subtle that you can barely tell it’s there unless it catches the right light!) and these NYX ones are great because they’re so lightweight. If you’re into a bolder highlight then these are also ideal because it’s really easy to build up the product without it looking cakey. I have the shades ‘Moon Beam’ and ‘Liquid Prism’ and I love them both. I feel like Liquid Prism will be the highlighter that I reach for during the Summer months because it has that beautiful apricot tone to it and I think it’ll look super gorgeous on my sun kissed skin. These are truly stunning and if you’re kinda new to the world of highlighters then they’re a great place to start.

You’ve probably heard a billion people talking about the Glossier ‘Haloscope and that’s because it’s genuinely out of this world! I’m a huge fangirl when it comes to Glossier products anyway so I knew the Haloscope was going to be incredible, but I kind of underestimated JUST how incredible it would be! What I love about Glossier is that their products really allow me to create that super natural ‘barely there’ look that I love, and this highlighter is the perfect example of that. Haloscope is a ‘dewy’ effect highlighter so a swoop of product on the top of your cheekbones really helps to give your skin a super gorgeous ‘glow from within’ kinda vibe. What’s crazy is that the outer ring of the product is actually infused with real crystals and the formula is also totally dreamy because of the coconut and sweet almond oil within the highlight. It’s so easy to use because you can literally glide the product directly onto your face (no need for brushes or blenders unless you really want to). I usually just swoop it on and blend the product out with my fingertips. It’s truly stunning!

Of course I have to take a second to mention the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer! If you’re into cream based products like I am then you definitely need to give the Living Luminizer a go! If the ‘barely there’ look is your thang then this is the highlighter for you because the Living Luminizer is actually an ‘ultra sheer’ product with a translucent finish. Never fear, the product does actually show up on your face, but it’s just incredibly subtle and looks super modern. Again, this is such an easy product to use because you can literally just swirl your finger lightly into the product and dab it onto your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose. Another thing that I love about this highlighter is that it’s so versatile! I hate wearing makeup at the weekends but sometimes I’ll just dab a thin layer of the product onto my eyelids and above my lips to bring my face to life. I actually love the way that the highlighter looks on my eyelids with just a slick of mascara. It’s gorgeous.

Last but not least I need to take a second to tell you guys about the stunning ‘Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator’ by Marc Jacobs. Much like the Glossier ‘Haloscope’ the Glow Stick is super easy to use; you can use a brush to apply this highlighter or you can just swipe it straight onto your face. I’m such a fan of stress-free makeup so for me, the easy application of this baby is one of the reasons why I love it so much! Not only that, but the colour of the illuminator itself is absolutely beautiful, I just feel like this colour has so much depth to it and when it catches the light you can really see all the different tones within it. Another thing that makes this highlight so great is that it’s suitable for both warm and cool complexions because it uses a balanced mix of pearly gold and silver pigments. Marc Jacobs makeup products are absolutely gorgeous and the Glow Stick is a fab example.

I’m completely obsessed with dewy skin right now so if you guys have any suggestions of highlighters that I should try then definitely let me know in the comments down below! If I had to choose a favourite I would probably say that the RMS Beauty ‘Living Luminizer’ is the highlighter that I love the most. The Living Luminizer is just so versatile and I absolutely adore the way that it looks when I apply it to my lips and eyelids as well. If you’re looking for something a bit more affordable then I urge you to try one of the NYX ‘Away We Glow’ Liquid Highlighters; with so many gorgeous shades available you’re guaranteed to find something that works with beautifully with your skin tone. Let me know which ones are your faves!

That Nyx liquid highlighter does look promising! I am super keen on ordering a bunch of nyx products from feel unique soon enough, this will definitely be on the list. x

  • I didn’t even know that NYX had highlighters, I just go straight to their soft matte lipsticks… I don’t normally use a highlighter so I’d probably just go for the cheaper NYX ones. Good to know they’re great quality.
