My Body Routine

We all know that beauty is a huge part of my life. That’s how I started my career on YouTube and it's something that will always be a big part of my life. I really lean on beauty as part of my self-care routine because I know how much it can help me shift my mood. Taking time out of your day to do something purely for yourself almost feels indulgent when in reality it’s something we should all do! You get time to connect with yourself, treat your skin to some beautiful products and you get to wind down after a long day.

My body routine is so, so important to me especially during the winter and especially as I'm entering my thirties. I noticed that the skin on my body had been getting neglected, so over the years I've really fine tuned my body routine and consider it as important as what I do to my face! My body routine consists of four steps: exfoliation, cleansing, shaving and hydration. More or less the same steps that would be included in your face skin care routine (some of us got a lil' fuzz on our upper lip etc. that we choose to remove can ya dig it? Although I wouldn't recommend using a razor to remove it!).

My first step, which is so important and I feel like a lot of people skip, is exfoliating. Using a physical exfoliant on our bodies is a great way to remove any dead skin cells. We tend to use chemical exfoliators on our faces because scrubbing our faces with rough particles can be damaging. The skin on our body is definitely less sensitive compared to the face, but that being said sometimes you can find body exfoliators that also contain chemical exfoliation ingredients. Why not go for a double exfoliation approach on our bodies!? My top tip for exfoliating with a body scrub is to apply the scrub onto dry/damp skin rather than wet. It's much more effective because it's not slipping off of the skin.

Another interesting way to exfoliate the skin on our bodies is through dry dry brushing. I’m actually quite new to brushing my body, but I’m already obsessed. I usually just quickly brush my dry skin before I hop into the shower and it literally only takes 5 minutes. It's something I wish I started sooner because not only is a great way to exfoliate, but it also helps with drainage and helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

If I want to go the extra mile and really treat my body, I like to use a body mask. I know it sounds a little weird because usually people only apply masks to their faces, but let me tell you it works wonders and makes me feel great! There can be so much build up on many areas of our body that don’t get any attention (in between our boobies, armpits etc.). Just give it a go once a week your body will be thanking you. I can highly recommend the MIO Clay Body Cleanser! Apply it, let it dry and rinse off in the shower.

Next up is shaving. Shaving is a personal choice and obviously you don't have to shave. Totally up to you, but I have shaved my whole life and it’s just what I like to do but hey, you do you boo. I just recently discovered the brand Estrid for razors and it changed my razor game. They’re vegan + they shave extremely close to the skin and really hugs all the different curves and shapes of your body. I also like it because you can get the refill razors sent right to your door. Very convenient and honestly just super cute.

And last but definitely not least is moisturising! Moisture comes in all different shapes and sizes and there is one for every occasion. In the morning when I’m running a bit late I like to use something that is on the lighter side and sinks in quickly. In those cases I usually go for a lotion (e.g. Augustinus Bader body lotion). If I want to deep moisturise my skin I would go for a body balm to target specific dry areas like elbows etc. or just a classic body butter (Augustinus Bader Body Cream) if I really need that extra loving.

In addition to creams, I love to add an extra final step into my routine - oils. Another one of those things that we either associate with face skin care or maybe only would use on special occasions. But hey what if I just want to treat myself without a special occasion?! I usually either use a solid oil like the one from 8 faces or a liquid one like the MV Skintherapy Body Oil.

I think it’s so important that we all treat ourselves to some special me-time this winter especially during these ongoing lockdowns.
