Products That Transform My Dry Skin

As you all know, the winter months can really affect ones complexion. Even though we are still all at home most of the time, turning up the heating system can also leave your skin feeling tight, sensitive and not it’s best self. My skin is crying out for some sun and TLC. One would probably head for more of a low maintenance routine by slathering on thick creams and exfoliate vigorously to get rid of those flaky areas or patches, I understand trust me… although as a skincare obsessive and I have definitely learned from experience that this is not the way forward. I really feel that if we have the time to style our hair and have a relaxing bath, we have time to give ourselves a mini facial :) I’ve been figuring out all the products that have actually helped to narrow things down for you.

Spotlight on: Moisturising Cleansers

Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cleanser is beyond dreamy. I usually use this for my second cleanse, you only need a small amount (around the size of pea). I add a tiny dash of water to my hands and then start working it into my skin. I don’t like it too wet so I add water when it's feeling slightly cream-like on the face to form a more milky texture. The scent of these has the same affect as the feeling of the product on your skin. Your face will thank you! So gentle and honestly quite calming.

Spotlight On: Serums

This is definitely an extra step to your routine but I have always felt that this is where the magic happens! The words ‘acid’ or ‘chemical exfoliator’ can scare people away but be assured that hyaluronic acid is safe. When it comes to skin hydration, you've probably heard of the wonders of hyaluronic acid. According to the skin experts, it's one of the best things to give your skin to leave it hydrated and plump. I have recently made this a holy grail product. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. This comes with a cool fact, a single gram of hyaluronic acid can hold six litres of water and research suggests it helps protect against environmental aggressors, such as pollution! Cool no? Some get confused where they would fit this into the order of products. The rule is thinnest most viscous products first then building on that with thicker products ending with cream texture (unless you enjoy a night oil over your moisturiser). I think this product is also great for sensitive skin :)

Spotlight On: Creams

At the moment I am very into creams that feel like clean laundry. That sounds a bit vague but the way I like to explain them is, essentially products that do what they say they will, no fuss or fancy bits and they make you feel good. Skin this time of year always seems to be doing some weird things, the dryness of deep winter is here but if you feel like maybe you should be glowing slightly more given Spring is around the corner. Ultimately you want your skin to behave itself. The La Roche Posay Toleraine Creme is the epitome of french pharmacy beauty brilliance. It will hydrate you to the perfect level but won’t make skin feel suffocated. Great for those with dry, combination and oily skin, it even sinks in quick enough so that makeup can be applied on top. It layers great as well so by adding this into your routine you won’t need to get rid of anything else you have in your rotation. This is a great go-to moitsuriser when I feel my skin is asking for a break from life’s madness.

Oils

When applying my oil, I always use around 3 drops out of the pipette, warm it up in my palms, relax and inhale then massage my face. Sometimes, if I’m feeling the need for some extra zen, I’ll take out my Gua Sha tool. I have found that the easy gliding motions make the process easier. The aroma of oils really helps me relax and be in the moment. Rosehip and neroli are two scents I like when using an oil. Especially neroli, it’s a go to for that calming spa scent. Oils on top of creams, allow the skin to lock in all the moisture into deeper layers of skin. Another thing I love to do, is apply a smaller amount of oil to the skin in the morning and whip out my funny looking Sarah Chapman Facialift tool. It’s a great morning workout and seriously helps wake you up.
